Lewis Hamilton‘s move to Ferrari from 2025 will force Carlos Sainz out from the Italian team in the coming season. The Spaniard is currently seatless for next year. The entire decision to oust Sainz from the team was a tough call for Team Principal Fred Vasseur. However, F1 presenter Martin Brundle reckoned that the Frenchman wouldn’t express regret on the decision.

Carlos Sainz has been performing very well in the 2024 season as compared to a majority of the other top drivers on the grid. Sainz has even came home to win the Australian GP. Martin Brundle mentioned that even if Fred Vasseur realized that he let go of the wrong driver, he wouldn’t show it. The Briton explained that the choice was made and Ferrari broke an ‘exceptional couple’ in Charles Leclerc and Sainz.

If even at some point in the season Vasseur realized that he had let go of the wrong driver, he would never let us know. They made their choices. Charles is a pilot of the highest level, and with Carlos he forms an exceptional couple, who despite being very competitive is also quite manageable. Martin Brundle told Sky Sports UK.

Apart from this, Brundle didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that Ferrari made this call because they had the chance to acquire Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton’s seven title wins outshined Sainz’s recent performances and hence will lead to the Spaniard’s departure. Additionally, the Briton explained that despite discussing the entire situation all day, and have no solution. Ferrari’s decision was final and couldn’t be changed.

Now they are breaking it because they have had the opportunity to take a seven-time world champion who transcends our sport. We can discuss Ferrari's choice all day, but we would waste time and energy: their choice has been made, and we will see what Lewis will be able to do in Maranello. Martin Brundle noted

Thierry Bousten claims he would’ve kept Charles Leclerc over Carlos Sainz

Charles Leclerc is above Carlos Sainz in terms of points this season. However, Sainz missed out on crucial points in Saudi Arabia due to appendicitis injury. Former F1 driver Thierry Bousten pondered over the differences between the two drivers. Theirry Bousten claimed that Sainz was never dominating in performing in F1 like Leclerc. Additionally, the Belgian asserted that the two were in completely different situations.

Sainz is in a different position, he’s never been dominating like Charles has done. When he was together with Vettel, he was dominating Vettel left and right. These two guys are in two very different situations, positions, and ambitions as well. Thierry Bousten said, as reported by planetf1.com.

Apart from this, Bousten highlighted the contract situation for both drivers in the coming season. Hence, Sainz will have to make as much as possible with his remaining time in Ferrari to ensure a good seat in the coming season. However, Bousten mentioned that he would prefer the Monegasque over the Spaniard. The reason was that the 26-year-old was that the mentality and pressure on both the drivers was different. Sainz is believed to be in contact with Audi for next year.

So the pressure is different. The mentality of the two is different. I would personally keep Charles instead of Carlos if I had a choice. If you look at the person over the years that they’ve been together, Charles has been quicker than Carlos, Now the situation is different, so different for the two of them, they have a different way of looking at the future. Thierry Bousten mentioned.

Regardless of the situation next year, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will try to maximize results for Ferrari. Maranello has minimized errors since the season began. However, it remains to be seen where Sainz is headed for 2025.
