Prime Hydration faces a class action lawsuit amid claims their drinks contain elevated and alarming levels of potentially harmful per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

PFAS are also known as “forever chemicals,” and have been linked to various health conditions, including some forms of cancer.

Last July, New York Senator Chuck Schumer sent a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, requesting the agency investigate Prime and its energy drinks for false claims, marketing and high caffeine content.

The company’s owners, KSI (Olajide William Olatunji) and Logan Paul, developed and aggressively market the Prime product line on social media.

The case filing shows the product lacked proper labeling and was falsely advertised as a health drink. Furthermore, the lawsuit, filed in August 2023, alleges the Prime Hydration line of drinks doesn’t contain any warnings about the inclusion of PFAS in their products.

Court records indicate Prime has risen into the conversation of top sports drinks in the United States, generating $250 million in sales during its first year.

The court filing notes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlined “a host of health effects associated with PFAS exposure, including cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and increased risk of asthma and thyroid disease.”

Dodgers name Prime official drink

At the beginning of the 2023 season the Los Angeles Dodgers named Prime the official sports drink of the team. Paul and KSI threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium, and Prime branding and signage are visible throughout Chavez Ravine, including in the Dodgers clubhouse and dugout.

Prime drinks also are sold at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers haven’t yet commented on the Prime lawsuit, and considering the filing occurred last August, their could be some time until the team potentially takes action.
