Stories about Shane Steichen from Eagles GM Howie Roseman
Jenna Watson/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

Before Shane Steichen became the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, he was the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons from 2021 to 2022.

During that time, he worked with Eagles GM Howie Roseman. Along with the rest of their coaching staff and front office, they went to a Super Bowl together in 2022, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

When Roseman took the podium at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, he had a funny story/interaction to share about Steichen.

Roseman shared the following:

"Last year at the combine, Shane's room was on the same floor as mine. And three times, I was trying to see him, I hadn't seen him since the Super Bowl. And he texted me and said I got something for you. So I'm sitting here thinking this guy is going to get me a great present. He's so happy for the players we got him, he's got this head coaching job and head coaching money. I'm thinking in my mind, is he getting me a watch, is he getting me sneakers, all the things I like? And he's like, bro, I have this green sports jacket. And I'm like, we have nothing similar in body types, so I actually just gave it to Nick (Sirianni)."  - Eagles GM Howie Roseman

After those listening off laughed at Roseman's story, he shared what he learned about Steichen, the person, and the coach during their time together.

"Shane has this savant-like approach to football. He's all ball all the time. Any conversation about football, about players he's there. If you want to talk to him about current events, he'll give you a huh or a what. But I think it's what makes him a such great coach because he's always working on things. He has tremendous confidence in his knowledge and his ability, and I certainly think the Colts are lucky to have him." - Eagles GM Howie Roseman
