John Stones appears set for another stint on the sidelines after picking up an injury in City’s professional 3-nil win over Young Boys. The England international was substituted at half-time and Pep Guardiola informed the media post-game that Stones had gone off with an injury.

Speaking post game the City manager explained that John Stones was taken off due to injury. He said: “John (Stones) felt it again. I feel so sorry for him. It’s a big loss for us. John is so important for what he does. But recover and the season is long. He will be back stronger. I think he will be out for a while.”

Guardiola explained that Stones absence will be a blow for his side adding: “It’s muscular, he will be a while out. It’s a pity for him; an incredible professional. It’s a pity and bad news for us.”

John Stones had only recently returned from injury in City’s win over Brighton. He also made a late start to the season due to a hip injury. It will be a blow for the European champions as the return of Stones coincided with a 5 game-winning streak for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The injury will see the defender likely miss Sunday’s clash with Chelsea. With the international break upcoming it will also likely see Stones miss England’s upcoming matches against Malta and North Macedonia.

Stones role in Pep Guardiola’s setup is a vital one. His ability to play at the back and drift into midfield and forward has become integral to City’s game. It is unknown at this time how long Stones faces on the sidelines.
